Bringing Stories to Life: Dress Like a Storybook Character Day

At Prairie Hill Waldorf School, we actively strive to inspire a lifelong love of learning, and what better way to celebrate imagination than by stepping right into the pages of a book? That’s why one of our absolute favorite days of the year is Dress Like a Storybook Character Day!

This year, the enthusiasm was truly infectious. Our students and faculty alike showcased incredible creativity and dedication, proving that the magic of reading is alive and well at Prairie Hill. You could see beloved classics walking the halls alongside modern favorites. We had the resourceful and imaginative Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables and the fiercely detailed style of Fancy Nancy. We even saw a student embodying a magnificent, fierce, and entirely handmade figure, showing the kind of dynamic thinking and creativity our curriculum aims to foster.

These dress-up days are more than just fun; they are a vital part of our experiential and arts-integrated approach to education. By physically embodying a character, children deepen their connection to the story, the themes, and the language. It encourages empathy, boosts confidence, and turns the act of reading into a lively, social experience.

Seeing the halls filled with these fantastic literary figures—from a dedicated teacher dressed as the squirrel-obsessed Flora from Flora & Ulysses to the incredible student costumes—was a true joy. Everyone really nailed their looks, wouldn’t you say?!

We are proud to nurture a community where the creativity sparked by literature is celebrated in such a vibrant and expressive way!
