Sunshine, Mud Pies, and Magic: Summer Garden Camp is Well Under Way!

If you’ve walked past our campus recently, you may have heard the sweet sound of children laughing, singing, and splashing. Our Prairie Hill Waldorf Summer Garden Camp is in full swing, and our campus is absolutely buzzing with childhood joy!

There is nothing quite like summer through the eyes of a child. Following the rhythms of a Waldorf day—filled with wholesome, child-led outdoor play, artistic activities, and rich storytelling—our campers are fully immersing themselves in the natural beauty of our woods, meadows, and gardens.

We are already several weeks into our season, and the memories we’ve made so far are nothing short of magical. Here is a look at what our campers have been up to, and the wonder that still lies ahead:

A Look Back at Our Adventures

  • Week 1: Habitats & Homes (June 8–12)
We kicked off the summer by becoming nature detectives! Campers explored the meadow and woods, peering closely at the earth to find where our animal friends dwell. From cozy bird nests high in the branches to hidden ground burrows, we celebrated our furry neighbors through creative stories and hands-on discovery.
  • Week 2: Fairy Tales (June 15–19)
“Once upon a time…” took over our camp as we stepped directly into magical realms. We gathered under the shade of the trees to listen to fairy tales from around the globe, allowing our imaginations to soar.
  • Week 3: Water Fun (June 22–26)
This week was a favorite for obvious reasons! We transformed our outdoor play space into a vibrant aquatic paradise. Our little campers splished, splashed, and played, letting their imaginations swim with brightly colored sea creatures and cool, sensory water games.
  • Week 4: Friendly Frogs (July 6–10)
After a relaxing mid-summer break, we jumped right back in with a frog hunt! Campers searched high and low for our hopping friends, played active frog games, and enjoyed plenty of refreshing water-table play.

What We’re Up to Right Now & Looking Ahead!

  • Week 5 (This Week!): Fairies & Gnomes (July 13–17)
Right now, magic is around every corner. Our campers are meandering through the wooded trails, building tiny homes from twigs, bark, and moss for our forest’s most whimsical, hidden residents.
  • Week 6: Bugs & Butterflies (July 20–24)
Next up, we are getting up close and personal with the creatures that flit, fly, creep, and crawl. We’ll be investigating the incredible beauty and unique traits of insects.
  • Week 7: Music & Rhythm (July 27–31)
Get ready for some beautiful noise! We’ll be singing, dancing, and exploring rhythm using hand-crafted instruments, percussion, and our very own voices.
  • Week 8: All the Feels (Aug 3–7)
We are wrapping up our summer with a spectacular sensory feast. Campers will get their hands messy exploring “all the feels”—from squishy clay and cool water to crunchy leaves and ooey-gooey slime.

The Heart of Waldorf Summer Camp

At Prairie Hill, we believe that summer should be a time for children to slowly decompress, breathe in the fresh air, and connect deeply with the earth and each other. By keeping our groups small, our rhythms gentle, and our focus on nature, we give children the space to just be.

Thank you to all of our wonderful camp families for trusting us with your children this summer. We can’t wait to see what else the remaining weeks have in store!

Missed out on the fun? While our current camp weeks are well underway, we’d love to welcome your family to our community for the upcoming school year.
